Concealer Routine to Brighten Up the Under Eye Area
I am always in the market for concealers, just because I am obsessed with covering & brighten up the under eye area. oh yes.... I have been in search of what works for me, my skin tone and how well the concealer stay on through out the day. I do admit I can be a hoarder when it comes to concealer but you know what? I have manage to discovered what works best if for me. ooh do note this is specifically for the under eye area, here are the products I used in my makeup routine.
So after applying my foundation I apply the following products:
Bobbi Brown Corrector (Dark Bisque) - SGD43 at Bobbi Brown Counter
My current MUST HAVE is the Bobbi Brown Corrector in Dark Bisque, it neutralized and even out the skin tone around the eye area. Some people might misunderstood the purpose of this corrector it is not to conceal but to neutralized the darkness under the eye, you can't straight away concealer the under eye because the dark circle some how discolor your under eye and putting concealer will make it look ashy and you will ended up looking worst.
Dark Bisque is a salmon color shade, I do suggest you go to Bobbi Brown counter and ask them for the right shade for your skintone. It's really important to get a color swatch especially buying such product.
So after putting in the corrector I have 2 choice, either go with a normal skin tone concealer such as:
MAC Pro Long Concealer in NC25 - SGD30 at MAC Stores/Counters
This was also one of those concealer I use to cover up under the eye and blemishes, I prefer this formulation as it DOES NOT crease under the eyes or settle into fine lines, which is great! This concealer is definitely full coverage and applying a little goes a long way and be very careful of the pump. I do highly recommend this concealer for anyone, MAC have a wide range of shades, formulation is great not too thick and coverage are awesome. Again I do suggest you go to MAC and get a color swatch to match your skintone. For me NC25 is the best match for me.
So if I am going for more contoured and highlighting affect I would go with this concealer instead:
Maybelline Dream Lumi Touch Highlighting Concealer in Nude - (Bought in US, you might find them on ebay.com)
So when I am doing like a full makeup I do the highlighting contouring thingy like how Kim K did, hahahaha (but I don't do it as drastic as hers) I do mine with brighten up areas on my face to look more awake. I apply under the eyes and create a triangular and blend it out. This make a huge different to my face and also it does help with giving that glow to the makeup. This can be a little heavy so I suggest doing this for occasion where you need a full on makeup. But this concealer isn't easily available in Singapore so I do suggest you try ebay or amazon to find this.
Ben Nye Luxury Banana Powder - SGD27 from www.shopping-district.com
After applying concealer and corrector I definitely need to set the under eye area since I still have oily and combo skin, This product is so finely milled that you wont feel it and best part this Banana Powder does not make your under eye cakey. Since the shade of the powder is yellowish it will also help to counter the dark under eye and brighten up under the eye area, this powder doesn't make your makeup ashy when you take flash photography. This is such an awesome product which I also featured in my previous favorite products.
Last but not least I do have to include this product:
Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge - SGD12.50 from www.summerinlove.net
I think it's just as important to include the tools, I used when blending out the concealer, this is the essential part in order to make the under eye looking as natural and flawless possible. After applying on the products such as corrector and concealer I do blend them out with this sponge instead of using my fingers. I prefer this method coz it gives that flawless finish and it does not make the under eye look cakey.
Real Techniques Setting Brush - SGD16 from www.summerinlove.net
After all that application and blending I do set the Banana Powder with this Real Techniques Setting brush which is a good size brush and small enough for that under eyes. You can also use which ever small fluffy brush for setting under the eyes but for me this work best.
I do highly recommend all the above products for you to try and see which suits you best, I am not a pro makeup artist but I do have my fair share of trying out many products for my dark circles. If you have any comments/feedback do leave them below or even better share with me what product do you use for your under eyes maybe I could be interested to try them too.
See you in the next blog entry.
